Some Benefits of Picture Windows

There are many benefits of picture windows, but one of the key benefits of choosing picture windows is their superior durability. Picture windows are considered incredibly energy efficient which can help you save on costly energy bills throughout the year.  Picture windows are completely sealed around the edges and offer additional home security as this makes them difficult to break into. Now that I Have My Free Estimate Scheduled, What Should I Ask?

After taking some time to think, you’ve made the decision to start shopping around for some new windows.  Companies typically have a requirement for “free” in-home consultations.  The process where you sit for a minimum of 1 hour with a representative and he or she will discuss some options. Then, you’re provided a quote based on several factors addressed by your consultant. In-home estimates can take some time, but think of it as your chance to ask all the questions you can about window prices, installation, benefits, etc. We understand that customers live busy lives and just want to know the “how much?” but there’s much more to think about when you’re replacing your windows.

Here’s some questions you should ask your design consultant during your estimate:

What windows are best for my rooms? The climate of where you live can play a role in the type of windows you need. Windows suitable for certain climates are important in keeping your home energy efficient.

How do the windows operate? Different styles of windows can have varying locking and opening features. Some windows slide up or down, but others can tilt and turn out for easy cleaning. Your consultant will have samples available to try it out for yourself! This is also a great opportunity to address various concerns.

How long will the installation take? Typically, the process from sale to installation can take about 6 weeks.  Here at Gulf Coast Windows and Doors, LLC, we custom make our windows to order, so they aren’t readily in stock just to deliver. Keep in mind that every window installation is different and can vary. We will keep you in the process every step of the way.

What happens if I have any issues after my windows are installed? The last thing anyone wants is a damaged window. This is a great time to ask about the specifics of the warranties. Take time to ask thorough questions about what is covered before making a final decision. If we make an error during the shipment process, the replacement is on us.

FEW THOUGHTS BEFORE YOU PURCHASE WINDOWS

Contrary to what some ads say, saving money on your energy bills is not the reason to replace your windows. That’s because it could take decades to recoup the $8,000 to $24,000 you’ll spend on new windows and installation. Energy Star-qualified windows can lower your energy bills by 7 to 15 percent. That’s only about $28 to $112 per year for a 2,100-square-foot, single-story home with storm or double-pane windows, or $127 to $466 if that home has just single-pane windows. So why bother?

New windows can make your home quieter, more attractive, and less drafty, and they don’t need painting. They’re also easier to clean than old windows with combination storm and screens and can reduce your carbon footprint

Don’t overspend on options

Upgrades can easily add 50 percent or more to the base cost of a window. Focus on features that add value. Low-E coatings improve efficiency, but triple glazing probably isn’t necessary unless you live in an extremely cold climate. Double-hung window sashes that tilt in make cleaning easier, and full screens allow optimum airflow when the top window is lowered and bottom window raised. Finer meshed screens let more light through and do not obscure the view as much as standard screens.

Replacing windows involves many decisions. If you want new windows, Gulf Coast Windows and Doors will help you choose the best ones for your home.
